Dust analysis: Dust collection filters

Dust particle size

Particle size analysis of the dust to be filtered is used to determine the size of the basic particles together with the particle size distribution/breakdown given on the basis of the statistical frequency of the different particles sizes.

This optional analysis can be used to select the most suitable type of filtration media, especially within the framework of filtration of dust with very small variations in particle sizes, or in the contrary with risks of abrasion by large particles.

Chemical composition of dust

We can provide several analyses to determine the chemical composition of the dust filtered:

  • Analyses involving X-ray fluorescence on a scanning electron microscope (SEM) can be used to determine the elementary composition of the dust to be filtered.
  • Quantification of nitrogen with the Kjeldahl method can be used to characterize ammonium salts and nitrated derivatives.
  • Infrared spectrometry is used to determine the composition of organic molecules and orient us towards the origin of deteriorations noted on a filtration media.
